Deep fried foods- yummmm! Thinking about all kinds of fried foods makes your mouth water instantly. From fried chicken to banana chips, Blooming Onion, Gobi Manchurian, and more, deep frying foods submerged in hot fat tends to give them a crispy, crunchy deliciousness that no other method of cooking can.
Since the food cooks quickly in this method, the outside becomes perfectly crunchy, while the inside cooks and all the juices and moisture remain locked inside. So every bite provides an extremely tasty, flavorful experience.
Other than the usual deep fried foods that everyone eats, there are certain foods that taste much better when deep fried, even though they might seem rather unusual. Here are four treats that I think are enjoyed better when deep fried.
- Dill Pickles – Tangy and sweet dill sliced pickles with a somewhat firm texture, are perfect in burgers, salads, and other foods. Unsliced whole ones are just as delicious and can be eaten with many foods, or even as a snack on their own. But batter them up with a mixture of cornmeal and flour with seasonings and deep fry them, and you will realize that they get elevated to a whole new level. The added crunch of the batter, and the kick from the seasonings goes so well with these that you are sure to eat these again and again!
- Oreos – This is another very popular treat that practically everyone eats at any time. Try these cookies deep fried with a batter and not only will it satisfy your sweet tooth, it will become your favorite treat. These are best eaten warm right out of the fryer, with some powdered sugar sprinkled on top.
- Ice cream – Everyone likes ice cream. Whether as a sweet, refreshing summer treat, or as dessert after a meal, or as a sweet treat in the middle of winter- ice cream has a universal appeal like no other food. While sweet, cold, and flavorful ice-cream is delicious on its own, having it fried makes it taste, dare I say, even better. Breaded ice-cream that gets a quick dunk in the deep fryer is not only sweet, it gives your taste buds the sensation of hot and cold at the same time. This treat can quickly get addicting, so beware!
- Pecan pie (yes, you read that right) – Pecan pie is the quintessential southern dessert, so is it possible to make it even more southern? Well, yes it is. Just take a perfectly sweet piece of your favorite pecan pie and cover it with flour, then with buttermilk that has molasses added to it, and finally with pork cracklins. Deep fry in oil. Before you eat it, don’t forget to add a dollop of whipped cream. Make it even more decadent by adding some bourbon to the whipped cream. This deep fried treat is sure to be a hit anytime!
These are some unusual fried treats that taste even better when deep fried. But you can try deep frying other snacks that might taste great too.
