Four Fillings You Must Try Injecting Into Your Cupcakes

Filling Cupcakes

Cupcakes are a type of baking that anyone can do, and can be enjoyed almost anywhere. Who doesn’t love a portable cake? They’re great for almost any occasion, and it’s hard to find anyone who doesn’t love them.

Have you tried making cupcakes with injected fillings? It’s actually much easier than it sounds. It gives a whole new dimension to your cupcakes, and it’s a fun surprise for people who bite into them. Here’s four fillings you must try in your cupcakes.

How to inject filling into your cupcakes

Despite the name, you don’t actually need to ‘inject’ the filling, so put that syringe away. All you need to do is cut a small hole in your cake that you can pour your filling of choice into. There are a variety of different ways of doing so, but we have two favorites.

The first is taking your paring knife, and cutting a small cone out of the top of the cake. The second is using a small cookie cutter to cut a perfectly round shape out. The benefit of this method is that you can pop the cut out shape back on top once you’re done filling it.

So, now you have a hole in your cupcake, what should you fill it with?

  • Cream cheese: Cream cheese is a perennial favorite, and for good reason. It goes well with almost anything, but we recommend injecting a carrot cake with this filling. If you want to go over the top, you can ice the cake with cream cheese too for extra cheesy goodness.
  • Nutella: It feels like everyone is obsessed with Nutella, and it’s easy to understand why. There’s few chocolate spreads that taste quite as good as this delicious treat. Perfect for a children’s birthday party, you can whip up a batch of Nutella filled cakes and watch them disappear right before your eyes.
  • Seedless jam: If you’re looking for a more fruity concoction, you can fill your cake with a seedless jam. We’d recommend a raspberry jam, but really any jam will work well. The juxtaposition between the cake and the fruit will taste fantastic. These kinds of cakes work perfectly in an afternoon tea, alongside the sandwiches and pastries.
  • Irish cream: If you’re looking for a more grown up cake, this could be the one for you. An Irish cream filling can be made with Bailey’s Irish cream, chocolate, and cream. If you’re feeling really decadent, you can pair it with a Guinness cake base. Serve it at any evening party and they’re bound to go down a storm.

These are just four of our favorite cake fillings that you can inject for extra flavor. Try them all, and see which one tickles your taste buds the most. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can try putting other fillings into your cakes and seeing what the flavor combinations are like. If you come up with a particular favorite, be sure to let us know!
