Childhood Favorites Powdered, Glazed, & Cream Filled

Donut holes have been a long time favorite for many since childhood. Sweet, little buttery balls of dough that are commonly enjoyed glazed, powdered, or chocolate covered.  Yet some genius pastry chef somewhere said lets fill them as well! While your local bakery can mass produce these tempting treats, cream filled donut holes can be made easily at home.

Vanilla Cream Filled Donut Holes

With bakeries such as Krispy Kreme pushing out the freshest donuts nationwide, topping them can be done in a matter of seconds with a quick stop to your local grocer to stock up on supplies. This way you can make them right at home. Let’s try a popular filling such as Vanilla for homemade Donut holes.

Here are is list of ingredients you’ll need for Vanilla Cream Filled Quick Fix Donut Holes:

Vanilla Cream

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons whole milk
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

Quick Fix Donut Holes

  • 2 cups All Purpose Baking or Pancake Mix
  • 1 ½ Cup Water
  • 1 ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Cinnamon

Additional Ingredients:

  • Approximately 5 cups Canola Oil

Prep in Less than 30 Minutes

Once you have stocked pile your ingredients, you can begin prepping your donut mix. In a mixing bowl add 2 cups of All-Purpose Baking Flour or Self-Rising Pancake Mix, a tablespoon of Cinnamon, and a half cup of Granulated Sugar. Blend while adding water in short burst; folding until you are left with a solid ball of dough. Once you have completely blended your dough, you can begin rolling out the dough for your homemade crème filled donuts.

First, prep your Canola Oil on a medium heat within a 10 inch wide frying pan. The temperature must reach no more than 350 degrees Fahrenheit; meanwhile set aside a plate lined with paper towels to drain your donut holes later on.

Donut Holes in less than 15 Minutes

Flouring both sides of your dough, take a rolling pin to it until it is nearly eight inches long. Take a round Cookie cutter and remove 8 to 12 donut holes and set them aside. Check back in on the temperature of your Canola Oil. If near 350 degrees, begin setting in donut holes one at a time. Fry on each side no more than 2 minutes at a time; or until golden brown. Remove them from oil as soon as they begin to float easily, setting them aside on the paper towel lined plate. Repeat with each batch remaining while you begin prepping your Vanilla Cream for the home made donut holes.

Enchanting Vanilla Cream

Creating a filling to plump up those donut holes will take significantly less time ad will be done before their completely cool! With an automatic whisking bowl, place in butter and the powdered sugar; begin to beat on low speed until you are left with a soft blend. Once started, increase blending speed to High for an additional four minutes, stopping to add vanilla extract, and resuming whipping it into a nice cream filling.

Crafting Charming Vanilla Cream Donut Holes

By the time you have completed your filling, your quick fix donut holes should have cooled enough to continue. Fill a piping bag with the Vanilla Cream, create a small hole in each of the donut holes with a serving spoon, and fill donut holes until cream is charmingly oozing out! You can then finish of the donut holes by rolling them in a sugar cinnamon mix or top them with powdered  sugar, each of which you will have plenty leftover.

While this is a quick recipe for Vanilla filled cream donut holes, you could shorten your prep time even more by opting for ready-made Pillsbury Biscuits instead of making your own dough.
